My favorite writer is Stephen King. I started reading his books when I was 12-13 and my God this man blew my mind. He wrote a ton of brilliant books I seriously have no idea how he comes up with so many ideas. So since I *heart* him so much I decided to write about some of my favorite books written by him. I will not mention the famous ones like "The Shining", "Salem's Lot" or so, but I'll focus on some lesser know works of his.
Needful things has to be my favorite Stephen King book. I read it quite a while back but it still gives me shivers each time I think about it.
It's about a new store that opened in Castle Rock named "Needful things". The owner is this charming old man (who is actually a demon) and everyone who enters the shop finds his most desirable item. And there are some pretty weird stuff. Like one of the main characters buys this amulet that relieves the pain in her hand and another woman buys a picture if I recall correctly of Elvis and starts having intercourse with it. Very weird stuff in the book. But anyway all Hell breaks loose and in the last pages everyone is so scared that their precious belonging will be stolen that Castle Rock is destroyed. This is Castle's Rock last book :(.
I finished this book a couple of days ago and I really liked it. I even watched the movie.
In this book a woman named Dolores Claibourne is accused of murdering Vera Donovan, the woman she has looked after for many years. Instead of confirming the murder she reveals that she had nothing to do with it but instead pleads guilty for killing her husband 30 years ago. This book deals with child abuse and it's really disturbing.I don't know if a child can fully understand the emotional roller-coaster a mother has to go through when having to deal with an alcoholic and abusive husband. I saw this movie when I was like 9 or 10 but I didn't realize this until it got to the part where the girl is abused. That really left a mark on my mind. That scene is really .....whoa I don't know it's really hard to watch even now.
This is the book that got me hooked on Stephen King. It's the first book I read by SK.
This book is about an aspiring writer Thad Beaumont who isn't very successful unless he's writing under the pen name of George Stark. The public eventually finds out and Thad decides to leave behind his alter ego. Stark comes to life and starts murdering people that are responsible for Thad's decision. The ending is kinda confusing . Because we don't really know if Stark is real or that Thad has multiple personalities. But overall a very good book. I really liked the flashbacks and childhood stories ( had one really disgusting part but I don't want to give it away)
Hope you liked my reviews. Maybe I'll do more if I'm bored or something:)
